Teenage Life
Kids spent time hanging out at places like drive-in theaters and malt shops, and spent a lot of time in their cars. There weren't the wild differences in dress like we have today because of school dress codes, and less acceptance of differences. They also loved high school events such as prom. Here is a quote from a 1950's teenager getting ready for prom. "I Just got my skirt, blouse and sash all ready for the big event. We girls got red ballerina slippers to wear with out outfits. Are we ever going to look swell! Luckily, since working in the café, I know how to serve, but Claudia is nervous. She sure doesn’t want to spill anything on Mrs. Ward! Need to hurry off to bed to be fresh for tomorrow"! Dating also became a major part of the teenage culture where many of the boys would bring their girlfriends to the beach as well as take her to see movies. Dating was seen as a fun time back then.
